Equine insurance company Petplan Equine is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion it is the public to choose their most memorable moments in British equestrian sport over the past 25 years.

From the victory of Desert Orchid in the 1989 Cheltenham Gold Cup, to the Olympic gold medal winning performances by GB’s dressage and show jumping teams at London 2012 there have been many highlights and the public votes will be combined to produce a definitive top 10 favourite equestrian sporting moments from the past 25 years.

Petplan Equine has produced a list of 25 events from which the public can either choose or nominate their own ‘magic moment’.

The 25 nominated events are:

1. 1989:  Desert Orchid wins the Cheltenham Gold Cup

2. 1989:  GB wins individual gold, silver and bronze at the European Eventing Championships at Burghley

3. 1989:  Nick Skelton wins his third consecutive Hickstead Derby

4. 1991:  John Whitaker and Milton win their second consecutive FEI World Cup Final

5. 1993:  Michael Whitaker wins his third consecutive Hickstead Derby with Monsanta

6. 1994:  John Whitaker retires Milton at Olympia

7. 1994:  Superted, ridden by Robert Oliver, is crowned champion cob at the Horse of the Year Show for the 6th time

8. 1994:  The British event team wins the World Championship

9. 1999: George Bowman wins his 19th British Horse Driving Championship at Windsor

10. 2003:  Pippa Funnell wins the Rolex Grand Slam

11. 2004:  Leslie Law wins individual gold at the Olympic Games in Athens

12. 2005:  Zara Phillips wins the European Championship at Blenheim

13. 2007:  Mary King wins her fourth British Open title

14. 2010:  18 times champion NH jockey Tony McCoy wins the Grand National for the first time on Don’t Push It

15. 2010: The British event team wins the World Championship

16. 2011: Mark Todd wins his fourth Badminton title at the age of 55

17. 2011:  William Fox-Pitt wins Burghley horse trials for a record 6th time

18. 2011:  The British dressage team breaks the European Championship record score to win European gold for the first time

19. 2011:  Kauto Star wins the King George VI Chase at Kempton for a record 5th time

20. 2012:  TeamGB’s showjumpers win Olympic team gold in London

21. 2012:  TeamGB’s dressage riders win Olympic team gold in London

22. 2012:  Charlotte Dujardin wins Olympic individual gold in London

23. 2012:  Dressage rider Lee Pearson wins his 10th Paralympic gold medal as GB win the team event in London

24. 2012:  Sophie Christiansen wins her third gold medal of the London 2012 Paralympic Games

25. 2012 Frankel the world's best Thoroughbred Racehorse is retired after winning his 14th race the Group 1 Champion Stakes at Ascot

Visitors to the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead from July 30th - August 4th will also have an opportunity to participate as Petplan Equine will be handing out voting forms from their stand at the event.
