Trakehner UK’s annual grading and show held at The College EC, Keysoe, Beds , featured a number of exciting mares and youngstock.

The judges featured breeders, riders and producers including Holme Park Stud ‘s Paul Attew, Terry Hyde, registrar of the Trakehner Breeders Fraternity, German breeders Diether Pothen and Matthias Werner from the Trakehner Verband grading commission and breeder of the famous Trakhener stallion Gribaldi. .

Also invited onto the judging panel were Denmark’s Anders Dahl, international Trakehner judge and breeder and British Dressage List 1 judge and rider Harry Payne.

All were delighted at the high quality of horses entered. .

Of eight mares presented for grading, four were awarded premium marks, with the mare grading champion Ulana by Chabrol achieving an impressive 57 points. .

She also went on to be reserve champion of the mare performance test and mare champion on the showing day. It was also very encouraging for the breed that the stallion Godington Utah by Contis (pictured above) was approved for breeding. The last Trakehner stallion approved in UK was in 2007..

Out of all Trakehner colts born worldwide less than 5% are ever good enough to achieve graded status as the standards required are so high, particularly in correctness of confirmation and limbs. .

Godington Utah achieved this high standard at the grading but will now need to go and prove his performance potential by completing the Stallion Performance Test within the next couple of years. .

Brood mares, young stock and riding horses in the showing classes, were also of high quality, and the breed society policy of a strictly monitored closed stud book is clearly paying dividends..

The winner of the TBF Senior Bursary of £500 training fees was Joanna Jones with Holme Grove Devinci by Holme Park Krug.

Joanne bought Holme Grove Devinci , a 10-year-old chestnut gelding out of Holme Grove Donauwoge just over a year ago and they have formed a formidable partnership with placings at BE100, as well as dressage and showjumping..

Jo and "Vinnie" took highest marks in the Free Jumping competition at the Trakehners UK Show and was awarded the Ingrid Christodoulou Memorial Trophy. They also went on to win both the in-hand Riding horse and the ridden Riding Horse class and then awarded overall Champion Riding Horse. .

Reserve Supreme Champion and Best British Bred of the weekend was the champion foal, Woodcroft Noah by Garuda K..

The mare performance Test Champion was the stunning black mare Hollywood Dream by Insterberg. She went on to take Supreme Champion title.
