Lantra, the training body which oversees vocational training and qualifications in environmental and land-based skills, is offering equine apprenticeships to gain hands-on experience in the industry.

The course is designed to develop learners’ practical skills, knowledge and employability and focuses on key topics such as horse care and welfare, grooming, feeding, riding and exercise.

Olympic dressage gold medallist dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin, who began her career at grass roots level says: "You have to be dedicated and work hard, and often you have to start at the bottom and work your way up but if you have the determination to succeed it will see you through."

Charlotte, who began riding lessons after leaving school at the age of 16, describes her career as "much more than just a job".

"It will take you to amazing places to do amazing things with incredible animals. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have had the opportunities that this has given me."
