Race trainers open yards to public

A number of leading racehorse trainers in Newmarket will open their doors to the public on Sunday 23 September to help raise money for three charities: The New Astley Club, Racing Welfare and the East Anglia Air Ambulance.

The day begins at 9.30am with a public canter up Warren Hill with some of Newmarket’s equine stars performing the gallops.

The day is to be sponsored by Betfair, which has signed a three-year title sponsorship deal.

There will also be many other visitor attractions such as National Horseracing Museum, Tattersalls, British Racing School, The Jockey Club Rooms, Newmarket Equine Hospital and The National Stud open on the day.

In the afternoon the attention will focus on the Rowley Mile Racecourse for entertainment with stunts from the Devil’s Horsemen, Pony Club Games starring Frankie Dettori, Hayley Turner and William Buick, an inter stable staff go-karting competition, plus a trainers V jockeys challenge.

Julian Richmond-Watson, chairman of The Newmarket Open Day, says: "The day will provide a fascinating insight to the behind the scenes world of training racehorses and allow members of the public to see their favourite racehorses in the flesh."
