Shearwater Insurance honours event riders and owners

Shearwater Insurance and the Event Horse Owners Association celebrated a successful year for the sport at the recent EHOA awards.

The Shearwater Owner Award went to Philip and Iona Kerr who own Arctic Soul ridden by Gemma Tattersall.

The gelding started off the season at novice level and finished with a 13th place at Boekelo ***.

"We were delighted to win the Shearwater Owner Award," says Philip. "Gemma and Arctic Soul have only been a partnership since the end of the 2011 season so it is phenomenal to have his successes recognised already. The combination has had eight top three placings in 14 starts and being awarded the Shearwater Owners Award is the icing on the cake after such a fantastic year."

The Shearwater Owner Rider Award went to Sarah Charnley.

Shearwater’s Susan and Jeremy Lawton said "The person we picked to win this award is a very giving person to others. Apart from competing herself, she also helps her friends at events, teaches and volunteers, all the time while juggling a full time job and producing her own horse, despite not having any ménage or jumps!"

Sarah Charnley was delighted to receive the award. "I am a total amateur and was overwhelmed to learn that I had won the award," she admits. "I was also picked to win one of the EHOA Training bursaries and to have this support means so much. It has been an exceptional year for me, having celebrated my 50th birthday, been a fence judge at the London Olympics and now this!

My horse, Primitive Movement, has given me so much confidence but can be a little inconsistent in the showjumping so I can’t wait to get on with some training to help improve that! My ultimate aim is to do a 1* before I retire so I feel one step closer to that goal now thanks to Shearwater and the EHOA."
