The world record price for cobs was broken three times at Brightwells’ annual Welsh Cob Sale at Builth Wells, which attracted an attendance of more than 5,000.

The first record price was £16,000 paid for the cob colt foal, Thorneyside Royal Command.

Shortly afterwards the world record was broken yet again when Thorneyside Welsh Magic, a winner at the Royal Welsh Show and Glanusk champion, was sold for £20,000.

The final record of the day was set when Golden Boy, a two-year-old colt, was sold for £22,000 to a buyer from Sussex.

All three cobs were part of a reduction sale from the Thorneyside stud, owned by Peter Gray and his family, from Windsor.

The 43 Thorneyside cobs sold for a total of £151,000.

Brightwells, the official auctioneers to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society, sold 510 cobs to a total selling price of £459,160.
