Major, a Shire whose normal life sees him welcoming visitors the Holme Valley Heavy Horses Heritage Centre at Hinchliffe’s Farm, Netherton, proved the perfect TV star after appearing in a new BBC period drama Peaky Blinders, which was filmed on the streets of Liverpool and surrounding areas.

Peaky Blinders, an epic gangster saga set in 1900s, features a distinguished cast including Sam Neill (The Tudors, The Piano, Jurassic Park) and Helen McCrory (Hugo, Harry Potter, The Queen).

Major’s owner, Pam Brooke, said: ""Some of the scenes required up to 17 retakes but he has behaved perfectly"

Peaky Blinders, which is scheduled to be screened next year,  is the first recipient of finance from the new Yorkshire Content Fund, which is managed by Screen Yorkshire, and will film throughout Yorkshire.
