Boyd Exell opens World Cup Driving season with a win

Australia’s four-time FEI World Cup™ Driving Champion Boyd Exell enjoyed a fantastic start to the FEI World Cup™ Driving’s season in Hannover, Germany.

Boyd drove a fast and clear round to win the opening leg ahead of Dutchman IJsbrand Chardon and Sweden’s Tomas Eriksson.

He was presented with a special saddle chair, awarded to him by the sponsor, Klingenberg exclusive furniture. All drivers agreed that the course in Hannover, designed by World Cup course designer Dr Wolfgang Asendorf, was tricky.

The top favourites had all several knockdowns on the first night and Asendorf decided to slightly modify the course to make it more fluent.

Runner up IJsbrand Chardon, who drove his team of Lipizzaner horses at high speed throughout the arena course, but had one knockdown, summed up: "I have a good feeling, the speed of my team was good. The only thing I have to improve is the knockdowns. I was pleased that the course was changed after the first day; it was more fluent and open in the World Cup competition, which was better for the sport and the spectators.
