Tom McEwen celebrated success at this year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, coming 19th. At the age of only 20, he has already notched up a series of notable achievements including:

2011 – Bramham U25 CCI*** 7th Dry Old Party

2011 – Houghton CCI** 7th Private Rudolf

2010 – Hartpury CIC*** 15th Dry Old Party

2010 – Pardubice YR Eur Ch 14th Major Sweep

2010 – Bramham U25 CCI*** 8th Major Sweep

The McEwen family is steeped in horses – Tom’s mother Ali was a regular face on the showjumping circuit while his father Bobby is a senior partner at The Valley Equine Hospital in Lambourn. Tom’s sister Ella also events and rode for the British Pony Team in 2007 and 2008.

Tom was part of the British Young Rider team who brought home a sixth successive European Team Gold from the 2010 Young Rider European Championships and Tom finished 14th overall with Major Sweep. Previous to the Young Rider Europeans, Tom was part of the Gold Medal winning Pony Team in 2007 with his ride Dick Taytoe.

Tom has allowed the cameras to follow him at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trails providing a unique insight into the life of a 4* competitor.
