Stonar appoints international event rider and trainer

Stonar School, near Bath in Wiltshire, is delighted to announce that from September 2011, international event rider Darrell Scaife BHSI, UKCC & British Eventing Accredited Coach, is to become Stonar Equestrian Centre’s new Director of Riding.

Darrell’s riding and coaching career has taken him all over the world. He has taught regularly in South Africa, Ireland, Singapore and the Far East. Darrell is still actively involved in Eventing, both as a rider and more recently, as a coach.

Commenting on his appointment, Darrell said "This is a natural progression for me particularly as I have been coaching youth eventing teams both in Ireland and South Africa for several years."

Stonar’s internationally renowned Equestrian Centre offers riding tuition for many of its pupils alongside their academic programme, from beginners to riders who represent their countries.

"I am hugely excited to have the opportunity to develop Stonar’s Equestrian Centre, which has already been so well set up. My aim is to equip riders with horsemanship skills that last a lifetime – not just to compete with, but a complete education that encompasses all aspects of a horse’s welfare and riding" said Darrell

Jill Storey, who has been Stonar’s Director of Riding since 1999, is relocating to Ghana with her family. Having presided over the expansion and success of the Equestrian Centre, Jill said, "I am delighted that Stonar has found an equestrian professional who undoubtedly has the ability and industry experience to take Stonar’s riding forwards".

In May 2012 Stonar will host the inaugural National School’s Eventing Championships, in association with British Eventing. Qualifying events are already running throughout the 2011 British Eventing season.

Head of Stonar, Elizabeth Thomas commented "This is an exciting time for Stonar.  We are looking forward to Darrell continuing to develop our unique Equestrian Centre and are proud to have been chosen by British Eventing to host this prestigious new competition."

Stonar is welcoming visitors and prospective pupils to its forthcoming Open Morning on Saturday September 24th and the school will be exhibiting at the Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe in early August.
