UK Womens Polo Tournament 30th July

The Sport of Kings is fast becoming a woman’s world with over 50% of newcomers to Polo since 2004 being female players. Usually perceived as a pastime of the royal family there are now more female players than ever before and over 100 of these women will be showcasing their talents at the UK National Women’s Polo Tournament held on the 30th and 31st July and Ascot Park Polo Club.

To celebrate the influx of women to the game Ascot Park Polo Club, in association with the International Women’s Polo Association established, and continues to host, the largest and longest running women’s tournament in the world, now entering its 23rd year. The UK National Women’s Polo Tournament will see teams come from across the country to compete over the 2 days with an opportunity for newcomers to polo to participate alongside those players from the highest level of the women’s game.

Usually perceived as a bastion for the rich and famous, polo is fast becoming a sport for all. Ascot Park Polo Club, home of the largest training centre in the world, introduces over 2,500 people a year to the sport. It is also founder of and home to the International Women’s Polo Association, responsible for encouraging more women into the game.  Victoria Grace, Director of Ascot Park, commented:

"We are delighted to host this remarkable event and welcome some of the top UK women polo players to Ascot Park. With more than a quarter of all players in the UK  being female, we look forward to welcoming more women into the game and year on year we are delighted to see the standard of women’s polo improve allowing them to compete on a level playing field with men."

Polo is fast becoming a sport that can be enjoyed by all, whether one wishes to spectate or participate. As one of the few sports where women are handicapped on a par with their male counterparts, Ascot Park Polo Club continues to challenge the traditional perceptions associated with the world of polo and open the doors of the sport to all.

The finals of the tournament will be held on Sunday 31st July.  Car passes are available for entry on both days for £15.00 and matches will be played throughout the day from 9.00 am. Refreshments and a licensed bar can be enjoyed by all in the Player’s Marquee and on Sunday there will be a shopping village with a wide variety of trade stands.   Ascot Park Polo Club welcomes all who would like to come along to the club for an exciting weekend of polo.
