Dressage rider takes on water-ski challenge

Dorset dressage rider Kirsty Prudon and equine vet Chris Pearce have set themselves the huge challenge of water ski-ing around the 60-mile circumference of the Isle of Wight in a fund-raising epic for rising para-dressage star Debbie Hounsome.

Braving the twin challenges of wind and tide not to mention the thrill of navigating The Needles, Kirsty and Chris will be joined on the grueling five hour ski from Cowes on Sunday 10 July by fellow skiers Emma Rawlings and Oliver Webb.

As well as going the distance, their target is to raise funds for a very good cause, to help enable Debbie Hounsome from Gillingham, Dorset fund her dreams of competing for her country and maybe even at London 2012.

Kirsty first met Debbie when she was looking for someone else to take on the ride on Renee, the horse she had competed to advanced level but who, at 17, she felt needed a slightly quieter life.

"I thought para dressage would be the perfect job for him, having a kind and quiet temperament, but also because he enjoys rising to the occasion on big days.  I met Debbie and immediately saw both a connection between horse and rider, but also exceptional talent in Debbie’s riding.

"Every time I saw Debbie riding Renee, I could see harmony between horse and rider, and was amazed at the level of Debbie riding with such physical limitations.

"I was in awe at her degree of horsemanship and although it costs a lot of compete at the top level became determined that money would not prevent this pair showing the world what they can do.
