The date for the prestigious King George V Championship has been announced by the Cleveland Bay Horse Society (CBHS). This long-standing competition to find the Champion Premium Cleveland Bay Stallion will take place on Sunday 8th May 2011 at Lincoln University, Riseholme Park, Riseholme, Lincoln, with the first class starting at 11am.

Selected Premium Cleveland Bay stallions representing the best of the breed will be competing for the coveted silver King George V Cup which they will hold for one year. The stallions will be shown in-hand and judged by Mrs Ann Burrington, of Somerset, on conformation, breed type and movement.

The competition aims to keep this rare breed in the public eye while also maintaining breeding quality. With less than 250 pure-bred mares of breeding age throughout the world, it is vitally important to engage the support of British breeders, riders and breeding organisations as well as members of the public, to help maintain their existence.

As well as the King George V Championship, the show schedule will include classes for young stallions, ridden and in-hand pure and part- bred Cleveland Bays.

A schedule of classes is available to download from the website or can be requested by telephone to the Society office. The facilities on site include stabling, indoor school plus two outside arenas. Society merchandise will be on sale and anyone wishing to become a ‘Friend of the Cleveland Bay’ can join on the day.

Admission for spectators is free and all are very welcome. Please come along and support this ancient breed of British horse that is in danger of becoming extinct.

The Cleveland Bay Horse Society (CBHS) is a registered charity (Reg. Charity No. 293872) which was set up to protect and promote the Cleveland Bay horse.
