The Baileys JAS season kicks off in style at Vale View
The 2011 Baileys indoor Jumping and Style(JAS) season kicked off at Vale View

The 2011 Baileys indoor Jumping and Style(JAS) season kicked off at Vale View last weekend with the first of 12 qualifying rounds, under the eagle eyes of Kenneth Clawson and Caroline Moore FBHS.

"The standard was unbelievably high," Caroline said. "It was really refreshing to see. The track jumped well although the brush at the start of the cross country section caught a few out, and in the main competitors rode in good balance on accurate lines – every year the standard gets better."

It was a perfect start to the year for Lazy Acres Stables team: cousins Emma Stretton and Amber Franklin won the Novice and BE90 classes respectively, riding Zyacint and Lazy Acres Snow Patrol. Amber also finished third in the BE90 on cousin Sarah Stretton’s Mariah, and fourth in the BE100 on Snow Patrol.
Amber and Emma are based at Lazy Acres Stables where Amber’s mother Naomi trains them. Thirteen-year-old Amber first tried her hand at JAS last year, and with Snow Patrol now qualified for the final at Addington next month is hoping to also qualify her more experienced Lazy Acres Buccanner when he has his first run, at Solihull. Meanwhile Emma posted the best counting ytyle score of the day, with an eight."

Snow Patrol was bought 12 months ago as a project to sell on," Naomi explained, "but Amber has decided she wants to keep him. He started out a bit quirky but she’s ironed out the problems. All being well, she’ll do Pony Trials and JRN [now known as KBIS BE ON U-18] classes this year on both ponies."

Former pony European show jumping champion Zoe Adams was the comfortable winner of the open class with the aptly named Satonamillion, who moved up to Intermediate level at the end of last season. British pony eventing team gold medal winner Sophie Beaty took second and third places, while Canadian rider Waylon Roberts topped the BE100 placings on Vidona, having recorded an impressive style mark of just four on an HC ride in the BE90.

This weekend, the show moves to Hartpury and Merrist Wood.
