Hickstead SJ Friday
Shane Breen and Warrior
Shane Breen’s fantastic Royal International continued on Friday morning at Hickstead a lovely jump-off round from final draw was good enough to take the Old Lodge Young Breeding Horse Championship on Brendon Stud’s stallion Warrior.

The big chestnut had to be at his best because he was up against considerable opposition, with the sponsors providing no less than three of the 10 finalists.
However, Old Lodge had to be satisfied with second place thorugh Nicky Boulter and Jawaher, although they could count themselves unlucky after Nicky’s other ride, Super Trooper de Ness, lowered a fence in by far the quickest time.

This was a higely satisfying win for the Light family and for Louise Pavitt, who produced Warrior beautifully through the novice grades. The ride on the seven-year-old chestnut has now gone to Shane so that Warrior can have more international opportunities and the pair has already been placed in Aachen.

The other international class, the Bunn Leisure Stakes, provided great entertainment before the honours went to America’s McLain Ward, who simply flew round on Pjotter van de Zonnehoeve.
