Hickstead SJ 3 Wednesday
Nicky Boulter and Super Trooper de Ness
Nicky Boulter and Old Lodge’s Super Trooper de Ness produced a sensational performance to retain their Russells Catering Winter B and C title. This well-bred stallion had to be at his best to defeat one of the best fields seen in this prestigious championship and such was the quality that seven reached the jump-off over Kelvin Bywater’s up-to-height track.

All seven were clear again and rounds got faster and faster. Simon Crippen was holding the lead on another lovely horse, Judy Ross’s French-bred chestnut mare Ondine du Logis, but Nicky set off at the gallop and Super Trooper answered every call en route to a popular victory.

"That was one of the fastest jump-offs I’ve ever ridden in," said Nicky, who was still wondering how Super Trooper managed to clear the final line.

"I turned in so short that I had one stride and he had to go on it," she laughed.
