Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton enjoyed success at a British Equestrian Vaulting (BEV) affiliated competition held at Moulton College, Northampton.

Helen attended regular training sessions with the British Vaulting Team selected to represent Great Britain at this year’s FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games
The squad helped Helen gain the confidence she needed to take part in a Walk Team Freestyle class where she was part of the 4min routine that won her a first place.
Team coach, Julie Newell, said: "Helen was a delight throughout the training, and took to vaulting very quickly. She has natural balance and good expression and performed beautifully on our horse Willium.

The competition, held at the training base of the team at Moulton College, , catered for all levels of vaulter from groups around the UK and Helen was able to see a range of competitors aged from three to 23 years competing in team and individual classes.

"I'm totally in awe of what those girls (and boys) can do on the back of a horse - jaw dropping is the best word for it," said Helen afterwards. "Even though I've only met the British Vaulting team a handful of times, I am incredibly proud of them and looking forward to seeing them fly the flag in Kentucky later this year.

Helen took on the challenge after seeing a demonstration by the British Vaulting Squad at the European Dressage and Showjumping Championships at Windsor Castle last year. Blue Peter is hoping to screen the programme in the forthcoming new series in the autumn.

The event was held as a fund raiser to support the British vaulting team to pay for their horse Go for Gold to be transported to Kentucky. The Olympic and Paralympic teams are supported by lottery funding via UK Sport, but the non-Olympic sports do not receive funding of any kind. Funding in excess of £60,000 is needed to support the vaulting squad alone to allow them to compete for their country in Kentucky.
An online auction - - has been set up to help raise funds to send the British squad to the World Equestrian Games in 2010. All proceeds from this auction will go towards sending the team to the Games
