The Northcote Heavy Horse in Spilsby, Lincs, is appealing for volunteers to help get them prepared for the summer season.

"There are various ways of volunteering at the centre," said manager Terena Bolam. "If people have a bad back or do not want to help with the horses directly we have important spaces for volunteers in our tea room and gift shop, both of which are crucial to the centre during the summer season.
"We also need some strong men to give us a hand with some repairs to buildings and fences. It's pretty varied and we have something for everyone."

The centre is also looking for anyone who can help make the costumes for events run throughout the summer.

"Volunteering at the centre is very rewarding and so varied," says Terena. "You don't need any experience, we can show you everything you need to know. We welcome any support that people can give but right now we are really in need of some willing adults who can commit to help out on a regular basis even if it’s just for one morning a week.
"If someone has an interest in horses and would like to learn more then we can help them through practical experience so they can really get a lot out of it."

There are currently 14 horses at the centre, the most recent addition being a two-year-old miniature pony who stands at just 33ins.
