HOYS Showing: Saturday
Jack Cochrane and Hallmark IX
More prestigious showing titles were decided on the Saturday of HOYS this year, where Jack Cochrane was in stunning form to score a championship double.
The Scottish producer rode Sir William John to become Comfort Zone Small Hunter of the Year, then went for championship number two on Rosemary Hetherington’s lightweight Hallmark IX in the Equimax and Eraquell Cobs.
It was a close run thing, but they eventually stood in the spotlight ahead of Robert Walker and the five-year-old heavyweight Starry Night.
Yasmin Cuddy started the day’s proceedings by taking the Oggy Oggy Intermediate Show Riding Type title on Adam Winbourne’s mare Opium Casa Leona, while the Guy Fawkes show hunter type equivalent went to Hannah Horton, after a smooth performance on the Underwood family’s Dutch-bred Voltaire gelding Utah II.
There was a huge entry in the Carrs BMW SHP lead-rein class, which ended with a win for Abbie Farmer on Charn Secret Legend.
Wortley Celebration and Kitty Jewson had to settle for second place in this class, but Georgia Darlington took over on the lovely little Welsh section B to win the 122cm class and take the championship honours as well.
As well as entertaining the audience, the scurry drivers had battled hard all week to reach the Osborne Refrigerators final, which was a real cracker. The lead changed hands constantly until Sarah Cooke drove the round of her life to win the championship with Bow and Arrow.
