HOYS Showing: Friday
Jayne Webber and The Humdinger
More worthy showing champions were crowned on day three of HOYS. The first title went to the popular combination of Jayne Webber and the cob The Humdinger, who repeated their 2009 triumph in the CHAP coloured horse and pony championship.
Then another rider who has stood in the spotlight here before took the top honours in the Hutchinsons Staff Ridden Pure-bred Arab of the Year. Darren Crowe, who also competes in affiliated show jumping and dressage, won two classes before partnering the stallion Silvern Prince to the top accolade.
The Cuddy working hunter competitors found the course tough and clears were hard to come by. The eventual winner was certainly bred to jump fences, as Jo Callwood’s 10-year-old Thor is a son of the outstanding show jumping sire Concorde.
Riding ponies also took centre stage and the champion came from the 128cm section. Millie Wonnacott rode the little mare Broadgrove Springtime beautifully to claim the title from the 138cm winners Tarynn Rudd and the four-year-old Moluccas Perfect Peppercorn.
