Horses survive arson attack
A Welsh husband and wife braved an inferno to rescue their horses after an arson attack on their stables. Breeders Chris and June Marsh, from Rhondda Cynon Taff, saved all 10 horses, but one Thoroughbred mare was left in a critical condition.
They were alerted to the fire by a friend and, after freeing eight horses, were unable to reach the last two. Joined by other passers-by and local horseowners, they smashed through the stable door with a sledgehammer to rescue the pair.
Firefighters brought the blaze, which caused £25,000 damage, under control, while the couple were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
Detective Inspector Lee Porter, of Taff CID, said it was believed the fire had been started deliberately.
"This is a very unusual offence and we’ll be doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice," he said.
Anyone with information should contact DI Porter at Pontypridd Police Station or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
