Stallion of the month - Off The Record
Stallion of the month (Feb 2012) - Off The Record

5 things you never knew about the former winner on the racetrack, whose classic bloodlines, temperament and fertility rates make him a popular choice…

1. Owned by Mark Fitton and bred by Peter Onslow, he’s a 15.3hh by Desert Style out of Record Time, and is Elite Graded with Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain.

2. Described by Mark as "a horse with the complete package – performance, panache and a passion for life," this classically good-looking Thoroughbred, who was trained by James Givern, ran 17 races, winning five times and being placed in four races between 2006 and 2008.

3. With an excellent fertility rate and a pedigree to interest those with an eye for performance, he also has the looks and movement to attract interest from the showing world. "He is very clever, brave and gutsy," says Mark. "He has performance, exudes the ‘wow factor’, and is every inch a stallion! He is focused, professional, independent, and just gets on with the job, whatever is asked of him. Because of his size we can use him on pony mares and also Shires, not forgetting the odd race mare too!"

4. Although only in his second season at stud, Mark says Off The Record has served a wide selection of mares with owners having various intentions for their foals: "Time will tell, but he already has winning progeny from his first crop of foals competing in Sport Horse Breeding classes. They are big, strong, confident foals with quality and all have his beautiful head, athletic movement and confidence, without being bolshie."

5. Mark, a member of the Burghley Young Event Horse panel, is passionate about his job and believes Off The Record has many star qualities which makes him a winning choice.
"He is ideal for breeding sport horses as he combines power, trainability, attitude and quality. He also has a tremendous loose walk, a natural balance and is extremely good with his mares. He’s absolutely divine and just looking at him gives me a real buzz."
