Organisers of this year’s Golden Horseshoe Ride on Exmoor have been working round the clock to ensure that the event can go ahead as planned on 13-15 May, despite the recent heavy downpours.
The treacherous conditions have seen much of the UK’s biggest events being cancelled this year, but thanks to a dedicated team who have been out checking the routes and making alternative plans, the Golden Horseshoe can still run, with riders setting off from the usual venue in Exford.
Ride organiser Barbara Wigley says: “Obviously horse and rider safety has to come first, but we are confident that the routes we have chosen for each class are rideable. It’s been hard work making so many last minute changes, but we got there in the end and I am delighted that the ride can still take place. Not only have we had to redirect the course onto a drier route, but we had to have back up plans for parking, stabling, the marquee and all the trade stands, too.”
