Yorkshire-based Cleveland Bay owners, breeders and producers swept the board on their home ground at the 2011 Great Yorkshire Show.
Knaresborough-based Steve Pullan took the Cleveland Bay Mare class and was awarded the Margaret Raikes-May Trophy with his pure-bred mare, Knaresborough Moon Dust, with foal, Arena Moonstone, by Penrhyn Dictator. Joanne Firth from Dewsbury took second place with Willow Luceres.
In the Cleveland Bay Foal class, the top two placings were reversed with Joanne Firth’s Barbarian Gigolo, also by the stallion Penrhyn Dictator, winning the class, and Arena Moonstone taking second place.
Knaresborough Moon Dust went on to win the Pure Bred Cleveland Bay Championship and the Yorkshire Post Challenge Cup, and also the prize for the Best Turned Out Cleveland Bay, sponsored by Shaw & Co Specialist Equine Lawyers.
Joanne also took first prize with her Part Bred Yearling, Barbarian Double Jeopardy, who was also placed as Reserve Champion Part Bred Cleveland Bay. Barbarian Gigolo was awarded The David Keenleyside Memorial Trophy for the Best Pure Bred Foal.
Heather Ketley’s horses won both the Pure Bred Yearling and Two-Year-Old classes with Kirkmoor Wolfsbane Flower and Kirkmoor Iris Flower respectively, plus a third placing in the Pure Bred Mare class for the York-based owner and breeder’s Kirkmoor Primrose Flower.
The Pure Bred Three-Year-Old class was won by Danny Welch’s Knaresborough Outlaw.
In the Part Bred Filly or Gelding class, Nigel and Sue Cowgill’s filly, Hawlmark Classic
Twilight, shown by Peter Richmond, triumphed, continuing a hugely successful two seasons and taking the Part Bred Cleveland Bay Championship and the Highmoor Stud Trophy. Steve Pullan’s Jaguar Moon was runner-up in the Part Bred Filly or Gelding class.
Both part bred horses went on to further success in the week with Jaguar Moon taking second place in the Two-Year-Old Hunter class and Hawlmark Classic Twilight winning the Three-Year-Old Hunter class and taking the Reserve Hunter Championship.
