Ensure your paddock fencing is safe and secure by following the British Horse Society’s advice on fence height and type…

The British Horse Society (BHS) advises that fencing is at least 1.08 to 1.38 metres (3ft 6in to 4ft 6in) in height, with fencing for stallions slightly higher at 1.25 to 2 metres (4ft to 6ft).

It lists the following fencing systems as suitable for horses and ponies:
- Post and rail wooden fencing
- Post and rail impact resistant plastic
- Flexi-rails (PVC or rubber-coated webbing)
- Post and electric.

Wire fencing (both plain or barbed) and single strand electric wire should be avoided at all costs as they can cause terrible injuries to horses.
