VOSA’s new booklet answers frequently asked questions to aid horse owners and horse transport operators…

Whether transporting horses to attend a show or event, horse owners are facing a raft of increasingly complex rules and regulations dictated by the EU and the Vehicle Operator Services Agency [VOSA]. But help is at hand. VOSA has produced a new booklet that addresses basic, frequently asked questions to aid horse owners and transport operators.

A Guide for Horsebox and Trailer Owners has been produced in collaboration with the British Horse Society, British Dressage, British Eventing, British Equestrian Federation and the Pony Club among others, and should clarify the legal requirements relating to operating horseboxes and trailers.

“These rules are not just for the driver, but protect passengers, other road users and, of course, the horses,” said Rebecca Lucas of the British Horse Society’s Safety department – “and the welfare of the horses is paramount.” Contents include certificates of competence, vehicle weights, road worthiness, operator licences, tachographs and driver hours.

The guide can be viewed and downloaded from the VOSA website (click here) or Google search ‘A Guide for Horsebox and Trailer Owners’
